There are many reasons why couples opt for a scaled down, more intimate wedding. In our experience, these small wedding celebrations are as beautiful and meaningful as those larger gatherings. Here are 5 reasons couples are opting for a more intimate, micro wedding celebration.
1. Just The Two Of US
In the past, when people thought about eloping, it meant running off to the courthouse to get married quick or taking a drunken trip to Las Vegas to get married on the strip. Couples have now changed the connotations of elopements to something more romantic and adoring. Stylish elopements are popping up all around the country, especially in the Lake Tahoe area. There are so many picturesque locations around the lake to hold your intimate elopement ceremony.
2. Low-key, Just The Family
Weddings are where families come together and some couples have opted to keep the celebration to just that. For some couples, their families are the center of their worlds and can’t see themselves without those special few on their wedding day. Some special guests may be high risk so these smaller, family only wedding celebrations allow those special guests to be included in the festivities.
3. Intimate Wedding Now, Sequel Wedding Later
Due to the effects of COVID-19 hitting the U.S. in early 2020, many couples needed to make the difficult decision to postpone or cancel their weddings. Many of our couples postponed their weddings into 2021 but a handful of couples opted to have a small wedding ceremony now with a sequel wedding celebration the following year.
One of our couples told us that the wedding date they chose was really special to them so having their wedding on that date was one of the best ways to honor their love. They planned on having a sequel wedding next year once things with COVID subside.
Another one of our couples shared with us that in both the bride and groom’s culture, changing the wedding date is bad luck. This was their reason for downsizing from a 150 person lakefront wedding to an micro-wedding over looking Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe.
4. Cost Savings
In 2019, couples spent an average of $33,900 in 2019 for their weddings. Having a smaller wedding has significant cost savings. One of our couples pivoted from a large mountaintop venue to a small wedding on a boat cruise in the middle of Lake Tahoe. They shifted the extra funds towards fun activities for their wedding guests during their fun wedding weekend.
By having an intimate elopement or small wedding, the money you save can be transferred to other costs you and your fiancé may have in mind. The funds couples saved by having a small wedding were shifted over to more wedding photography and videography coverage, a more extravagant honeymoon, or more funds to put towards a house.
5. Reduced Stress
It’s easy to get caught up in all the numerous wedding details when you have a large wedding you are planning for. By having a small wedding with your closest few, it will be easier to focus on the people and things that matter most. If having those intimate moments matter more than a large crowd then maybe an intimate wedding is the right choice for you.
