Small weddings are what some couples are now considering rather than a large gathering to celebrate their marraige. COVID-19 has no doubt changed the way we celebrate weddings here in the Reno Tahoe area. The team at Epik believes that love is not cancelled. If anything, this pandemic has really put into perspective what means the most. In the last few months, we’ve had many couples postpone their weddings. We’ve also had many couples pivot from their original wedding plans.

Social distancing measures are currently still in place. Even though our communities are slowly opening up, large gatherings we had pre-COVID aren’t likely to come back as quickly as we’d like. With this in mind, couples are pivoting from their large, 150+ person weddings to smaller, more intimate weddings. With the additional restrictions for the wedding venues to hold gatherings, some couples have also elected to have a backyard wedding as an alternative. A few new wedding terms have popped onto the scene as couples opt for smaller celebrations: mini-matrimony, micro-wedding, and sequel-wedding.

Romantic Elopement

First, let’s start with an elopement. We’ve had couples whose wedding dates have been impacted due to COVID decide to elope in order to keep their originally planned wedding date. Elopements are significantly intimate, typically involving only the couple, their officiant and their wedding photographer. If your wedding date is etched in your heart and don’t mind waiting until your sequel-wedding to celebrate your marriage with your loved ones, then maybe an elopement is right for you.

Memorable Mini-matrimonies

This word is a new term coined during this coronavirus pandemic. A mini-matrimony typically involves less than 10 people. This is perfect for adhering to social distancing measures in many states.  With a mini-matrimony, your nuptials can be shared with a small group of loved ones.

The Reno Tahoe area has picturesque locations to say your “I Do’s” while our team of wedding photographers and wedding videographers capture this new chapter of your love story. Imagine you and your closest at a gorgeous location in Lake Tahoe getting married as the sun sets behind the Sierras. The mini-matrimony might be the way to go if you’re looking to celebrate your love with a very small group of your loved ones.

Micro Wedding

While this term isn’t really new as micro weddings have been gaining popularity, it’s been another option couples have been looking into for their small wedding. A micro wedding includes a guestlist of about 50 of your nearest and dearest. Some states aren’t allowing weddings this large, yet while others will be seeing gatherings of up to 300 people. As social distancing measures ease up, celebrating your love with 50 guests seems like a doable option in the near future.

Micro weddings still have all the awe-inspiring details as large weddings just with a small guestlist. 50 people is the perfect size to provide guests with lots of space and still have a great party. Our DJ’s will keep the flow of events from your grand entrance, to first dance, and into the toasts. Micro weddings are a fantastic option for a smaller wedding celebration with a select few of your favorites.

Sequel Wedding

What is a sequel wedding? This is the big party after your small wedding. It is the celebration you have after you have opted for any of the celebrations mentioned above (maybe minus the micro wedding unless you had a ton more people with whom you wanted to celebrate). We’ve provided DJ services, photography, videography and photo booth services for many sequel weddings in the past and already planning on some in the future.

A sequel wedding would be for those couples who eloped or had their small but still want to hold their unforgettable 150 person celebration once everyone is able to gather in large numbers again. The owners at Epik Weddings & Events, Frances and Erik, eloped with a courthouse wedding. Then they had their micro wedding with a guest list of 40 people in breathtaking Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. After that, they celebrated back in Reno, at the gorgeous Tannenbaum Events Center, with a sequel wedding for a large group of friends who couldn’t make it down to Mexico.

Trying to plan a wedding during an unexpected time like this can come with some incredible challenges. Social distancing certainly doesn’t make it any easier. A smaller wedding might be an amazing way to celebrate your love if you are ok with altering your plans.
